This is the newest restaurant from the chef of Spring and Green Zebra. It is located on the site of the late Prairie in the Hotel Blake and the decor has been completely redone. Unfortunately, the food is not as good as Shawn McClain's other two restaurants. It was expensive, the menu was limited and the service spotty. There were only a dozen entrees and the menu is not especially friendly to non-meat eaters; even several of the fish dishes had bacon or pancetta. The only vegetarian options were the side dishes. The restaurant is not a steak house but the entrees were pretty bare bones especially for the prices. I started with the crispy sweetbreads which were okay but hardly close to those served at La Sardine or Chez Joel. They were served in a ramekin on top of a very greasy tasting beef confit. The diver scallops with butternut squash dumplings and cider vinegar were good except the dumplings turned out to be half a dozen of the smallest gnocchi I have ever seen and the cider vinegar was almost nonexistent. A friend had the steak and said it was nothing special. The waiter started out by fawning and then later disappeared. When I did ask for the wine list to order an additional glass of wine, I needed to finally had to ask the busboy to find our waiter to order it. I will head back to Green Zebra or Spring but I am not a fan of Custom House and wonder if 1 star is too high a rating.
