The Italian Village is actually 3 restaurants in one building. The upscale Vivere is on the main floor and The Village is on the second floor. In the basement is La Cantina. Each restaurant has its own menu. The Italian Village has been in the Loop since the 1920's so they must be doing something right. The menu at La Cantina is standard with veal, chicken and pasta, as well as several fish specials. Entrees come with a choice of soup or salad and are reasonably priced. We were going to the theater and went to La Cantina before the show. Service was a little slow because of the crowd but they did get us out in plenty of time. The fish special of broiled whitefish was absolutely delicious. On a previous visit, we ate in La Cantina on a Saturday evening without reservations. I had the veal Marsala which was ok. The linguini with red clam sauce was good. Their red sauce was quite good. The wine list at La Cantina was small but adequate and the service was very good.
