PRAIRIE GRASS CAFE
601 SKOKIE BLVD.
NORTHBROOK  60062
(847) 205-4433
Located in a suburban strip mall, this new restaurant from Sarah Stegner, formerly of the Ritz Carlton, and partner is beautifully done in warm prairie colors and wood. The menu is interesting and the wine list is manangeable, with a range of prices from moderate to high. The salads are large enough to share and will be split upon request. The entrees range from steaks and chicken to unusual items such as the shrimp cakes on a tomato chutney and julienned vegetables to homemade lamb sausage over goat cheese and vegetables. The shrimp cakes were delicious, with whole shrimp stuffed into a shrimp puree then lightly breaded. The mushroom and cheese strudel served with half of a baked squash was a disappointment. The strudel was soggy and lacking cheese. Desserts were adequate but not exciting. The service did not live up to the decor or the menu.
